Finally, Taking Care of Me…

Updated: Nov 6

Okay… twelve years of taking care of everyone else had finally taken its toll on me! After years of putting everyone else first in my life, I finally came to the conclusion that I needed to take care of me! That thought didn’t dawn on me until my second year of retirement. It hit me like a lightning bolt, an epiphany, Divine Insight, and it completely changed my world!!

It was February of 2020 and my son had gone back to college to continue his freshman year studies. A dear friend, who had been staying with me since November 2019, had also left. I was all alone… for the first time, since Jim died in 2007!

Since I was a teacher during my career, everyone always assumed I was one of the lucky ones who could enjoy my summers off. For the most part, when I wasn’t teaching summer school for extra income, or taking classes to further my training, I would have to agree with the general assumption. However, watching my children play their sports was very important to me, but it could only be done during the school year, while I was working.

When my youngest son was a high school sophomore, I made the life-changing decision to retire early. My plan was to retire the summer before his senior year. Financially, I realized it would be challenging, but the opportunity to spend one entire school year attending my son’s soccer games, ski meets, and track meets would be simply amazing!!

Being alone in my house for the first time in many years, I found a new sense of freedom and enlightenment. I came to the realization that I needed to start focussing on me. I wrote down all the things I wanted to improve in my life so I could be healthy for my children as they grew older. I’d done that when Jim died, but life got in the way and I got side-tracked, once again, focussing on everything else, BUT me.

The day after my “aha moment”, I visited three local gyms, went to the food coop to buy organic foods, and talked to my angels. The guidance I received was to join one of the gyms and hire a personal trainer. Twenty years earlier, I’d gone to the gym, but my body was a little younger. I decided if I was going to really make a difference in my exercise routine and health, I was going to need some support.

Now that I was making meals only for myself, I decided to start buying organic fruits, veggies, and meats. I eliminated sugar and high carb foods from my diet, and focussed on preparing delicious, organic meals filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as grass-fed beef and healthy fats.

With the combination of ION5, Nectura, EverYoung, and “clean” food, I started to feel great! My outlook on life improved and I was shocked to see I was able to fit into clothing I hadn’t worn in many years!

To this day, I continue to eat “clean”, exercise 4-7 days per week, and feel great!! I have few regrets in my life, but this is one of them… why did I wait so long to finally take care of me?

Blessings Embraced:

  • Taking care of myself changed my life

  • Focussing on my health and general wellness improved my outlook on life

Affirmations: I am worthy of a healthy and balanced life!
